What's Coming to Sims 4? Complete Breakdown of the July 14 Laundry List
The Sims 4 team has released the latest Laundry List, previewing key changes for the July 21 update. The spotlight is on the long‑awaited Auto‑Save and Save Reminder features, along with major Memory Optimization for all platforms. The developers also promise to fix the annoying roof glitch and share plans for a September update focused on improving Sim autonomy.
Earlier, we covered The Sims 4 June update in detail, as well as wrote about the roof bug and hotfixes.
Auto‑Save and Save Reminders: Progress Will No Longer Be Lost
One of the most significant additions in the July 21 update is the Auto‑Save system. The developers are finally introducing a feature players have been requesting for years.
How it will work:
Auto‑Save will quietly run in the background, creating save points at key moments during gameplay.
In the settings, you can customize when Auto‑Save triggers – for example, after traveling between lots, after a certain amount of time has passed, or at important in‑game milestones.
For those who prefer manual control, a Save Reminder feature will appear. From time to time, friendly (or slightly grumpy) gnome notifications will pop up, reminding you to save your progress.
Together, these two features should significantly reduce the risk of losing progress, giving players flexibility to save according to their preferences.
Memory Optimization for All Platforms
Another major improvement is Memory Optimization, which will be rolled out on all platforms: PC, Mac, and consoles. This change should noticeably boost game performance.
What this means for players:
- Improved memory management during gameplay
- Smoother performance with less lag
- Better frame rates and response times
- Faster loading times
- Reduced risk of memory‑related crashes
Players with long play sessions, large households, heavily decorated lots, or older saves should notice the most significant improvements. While Memory Optimization isn't a save‑repair feature, it can also improve save stability and help with some memory‑related save issues.
Bug Fixes: Roofs Are Back
This month, the developers focused more on new features, so there are fewer standalone bug fixes. However, one of the most annoying recent issues is finally being addressed.
Roof bug fixed. Parts or entire sections of roofs will no longer disappear when viewing upper floors in Build Mode. Roof pieces should now remain visible and render correctly regardless of the selected floor.
New notification toggle. A new toggle will be added to the Game Options menu for Get Together club gatherings in Nordhaven, complementing the recently added festival notification toggles.
Corrupted lot issues. The developers also tested reports of corrupted lots appearing in saves with many residential rental lots. With Memory Optimization now available and enabled for all players, the bug can no longer be reproduced on any of the affected saves.
September Plans: Autonomy Improvements
Beyond the July features, the developers shared plans for the next Quality of Life update, scheduled for September. It will focus on improving overall Sim autonomy – making Sims behave smarter, more consistently, and more responsively in everyday situations.
This is another step in the team's commitment to making The Sims 4 smoother, more stable, and more playable. More details will be shared closer to release.
Release Date and Q&A
All the changes mentioned will be included in the update releasing on July 21, 2026. Additionally, today (July 14), the developers are holding a special Q&A session on the official Sims Discord server to discuss these changes and answer player questions.
The July Laundry List marks an important step forward in improving the gameplay experience. Long‑awaited Auto‑Save and Memory Optimization should make the game more stable and convenient. The roof fix will finally please builders, and the announcement of a September update focused on autonomy offers hope that the developers will continue working on game quality.
