Early access for Paralives launched on May 25, and within hours the game had 78,000 concurrent players on Steam and sold 250,000 copies. But – as expected from an early access release – the launch wasn’t bug‑free. The developers quickly published an initial list of known issues they are already working on. Meanwhile, the community is sharing screenshots and videos of the most absurd glitches – from interface freezes to the sudden appearance of a naked character named Charlie.

Earlier, we covered Steam Workshop, as well as cheats and dynamic height growth for children.

Official List of Known Issues

The day after release, the Paralives Studio team published a list of bugs they have confirmed and are actively fixing.

Performance

The most frequent player complaints relate to technical issues.

Crashes and freezes. The developers confirmed that the next patch should reduce the number of crashes. A temporary workaround is to make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements listed on Steam.

Long loading times. The game may appear to hang when starting up, but developers advise simply waiting – it will eventually load. They promise to speed up the process in upcoming updates.

Micro‑stutters in Live Mode. The team will work on optimization over the next few months to reduce lag.

Gameplay Mechanics and Paramaker

Some problems are related to gameplay and the character editor.

Fires. The developers are fixing bugs related to fire spread, extinguishing, and firefighter behavior. In early access, fires behave unpredictably, and the team acknowledges this.

Critical needs. Sometimes characters cannot perform actions to fulfill vital needs. This error is expected to be fixed soon.

Motion sickness in Paramaker. Some players complained about feeling motion sickness when rotating the camera in the character editor on the train. The developers will add “curtains” to help reduce this effect.

Interface and Saves

Issues with the user interface and saves are also on the list.

Unable to close some UI windows. A temporary workaround is to restart the game or speed up time. A full fix is in development.

Save file fails to load. The team is investigating the cause and working on a fix.

The developers thanked players for reporting bugs and promised to continue fixing and optimizing as more reports come in.

The Most Absurd Bug: Naked Charlie

One bug deserves special attention – it instantly became a meme in the community. Players started reporting that sometimes, when loading the game, a bald, completely naked character with no clothes named Charlie would suddenly appear in their household. He stands motionless and, as players put it, “stares right into your soul.”

According to analysts, Charlie is a non‑binary debug character that the developers use to test simulation errors. For some reason, Charlie started “escaping” into players’ builds, body‑snatching their characters. When Charlie takes control of a character, that character may start acting erratically or become completely unmanageable.

The community, however, took the bug with humor. Charlie has already been nicknamed “the urban legend of Paralives” and players have started incorporating him into their stories. One Reddit user described how his father character accidentally lost custody of his child, and when he loaded the game to fix it, he found that the child had been replaced by Charlie, standing “eerily still.” Another player shared that they tried to adopt a baby, but the game crashed, and upon reloading, Charlie had appeared.

The developers have not officially commented on the Charlie phenomenon yet, but given that he is a debug character, it’s likely his appearance is related to simulation errors and will be fixed in an upcoming patch.

Other Weird Glitches: Eating Furniture, Street Births, and Invisible Mirrors

Besides Charlie, players have reported many other amusing bugs:

Eating furniture. In some cases, characters “absorbed” furniture items – possibly a result of errors in the interaction system.

Street birth. One player captured a video of their pregnant Parafolk giving birth right in the middle of the street instead of at a hospital or home.

Skinless mirrors. Sometimes mirrors would display characters without skin, leaving only the model’s wireframe.

Endless walking in place. Characters would get stuck in textures and continue walking animations without moving.

Strange romantic interaction behavior. Several users reported that after one Parafolk rejected another, both characters would freeze in place and their relationship bar wouldn’t update.

Teleporting NPCs. Town residents could suddenly disappear from one spot and appear in a completely different location, ignoring all paths.

Despite the absurdity of some situations, the community is understanding – after all, early access is meant to identify and fix bugs. The bug thread on Reddit quickly became popular, and users are actively sharing their finds to help the developers.

What’s Next? Developer Plans

The Paralives Studio team has already announced that the next patch will focus on fixing crashes and freezes. Additionally, over the coming months (June to September 2026), the developers will focus on:

  • Performance optimization
    • Bug fixes
      • Refinements to existing features
        • Quality of life improvements

We wrote more about the update roadmap in this article.

Updates will be released regularly and for free – as a reminder, Paralives will never have paid DLC.
