Mean Girls & Clueless Kits Review for Sims 4: Nostalgia, Style, and a $3.99 Price Tag
On August 27, 2026, two themed "capsule kits" were released for The Sims 4 – inspired by the cult classic films Mean Girls (2004) and Clueless (1995). Both sets offer players a dive into the fashion of the late 20th and early 21st centuries: plaid suits, velour tracksuits, mini-skirts, and layered tops. Each kit costs $3.99 USD, which is cheaper than standard Kits. However, as is often the case with collaborations, opinions among players and critics are divided.

Both sets are "capsule kits" – small clothing collections dedicated to a specific theme. Unlike regular Kits, they contain fewer items, but the price is also lower.
Mean Girls Capsule Kit in Sims 4
The set dedicated to the 2004 film offers players a dive into the aesthetic of the early 2000s. The set includes:
Create-a-Sim (CAS) items:
- Mini-skirts and matching sweaters
- Velour tracksuit
- Cut-out tops (including the iconic "boob cut-out" top from the film)
- Accessories (earrings, jewelry)
- Festive outfits, including a Christmas costume

The set inspired by the 1995 film takes players into 90s fashion.

What We Liked
Nostalgia and style. The kits perfectly capture the aesthetic of the 90s and 2000s. For fans of the films, this is a great way to recreate the looks of beloved characters.
Price. $3.99 per kit is cheaper than standard Kits ($4.99). This makes them more accessible for those who want to add a touch of nostalgia to their game without paying full price.
Versatility. Many items from the Mean Girls set can be used in everyday outfits, not just for cosplay. For example, mini-skirts and sweaters work well for school or urban looks.
Decor for builders. The shopping bags from the Clueless set have already been praised by builders – they'll be useful for creating stores and teen bedrooms.
The Mixed Reactions from Simmers
Mesh quality. Some players and reviewers noted that the mesh quality is inferior to recent expansions, such as the Bridgerton Kit. However, for a 2014 game, the textures look acceptable.
Few items for male Sims. As expected, both sets are focused on feminine fashion. The only "male" item is Damien's hoodie from Mean Girls with the "She doesn't even go here" text. Players have already expressed hope that this item won't appear on random NPCs.
Iconic items look like costumes. Some items from Clueless (e.g., Cher's plaid suit) are so recognizable that they're hard to use outside of a cosplay context. This breaks immersion – Sims look like they're dressed for Halloween rather than wearing everyday clothes.
Few Build/Buy items. Each kit includes only two decorative items. For players who love building, this isn't enough.
Players greeted the kits with enthusiasm, but not without criticism.
Positive feedback:
"I actually love the two kits. Haven't bought anything from EA in a while, but this was definitely worth the money. I connect more with Mean Girls because I grew up with that movie, but the Clueless stuff is also very well done. Both kits can be mixed and matched, and to be honest, it's been a while since we got something for CAS that can be used without MOOLA."
"I do enjoy these, because I just highly f with stylized looks in general, so I'm not one to care about versatility. My save file tends to run very 'whimsical clown fiesta', so I'm pleased with anything non clean girl/suburban mom/beige/old money coded. So I was down with both SpongeBob and Bridgerton."
Criticism:
"I actually feel like the clueless pieces are more versatile (outside of the iconic outfit of course) than the mean girls pieces. Plus at least with the iconic outfit you could send your high school students in it, the Christmas outfit from mean girls I can't see myself ever using."
Should You Buy Them?
If you're a fan of the films and love 90s and Y2K fashion – the kits will please you. They offer quality (though not perfect) items that allow you to recreate iconic looks.
If you're a builder or looking for versatile clothing – you might want to consider Mean Girls, as its items are easier to incorporate into everyday gameplay. Clueless is better suited for themed projects.
If you're waiting for new gameplay mechanics or build objects – these kits aren't for you. They are purely cosmetic additions.
Average rating – 7 out of 10. The kits "know their lane and stay in it," but could have offered more items and better quality.
Mean Girls and Clueless are a nostalgic trip into the fashion of the 90s and 2000s. They're perfect for fans of the films and lovers of stylized looks, but are unlikely to appeal to those seeking versatile or gameplay-oriented content. At $3.99 each, they're an affordable way to add some pop-culture magic to your game, but don't expect them to change your gameplay.
