The Sims 4 August Patch: Autosave, Memory Optimization, and For Rent Fixes
On August 6, 2026, a new The Sims 4 update was released. Patch version 1.126.78.1020 (PC) / 1.126.78.1220 (Mac) / 2.37 (Console) brought long-awaited improvements to the autosave system, memory optimization, and fixes for the For Rent expansion pack. The developers also fixed several annoying bugs, including the infamous "stuck" career and school timers.
Autosave: You Won't Lose Your Progress Now
One of the key new features of the patch is a change to the autosave settings.
What's changed:
Default save reminder. The game will now remind you to save every 2 hours. Previously, this feature was disabled by default.
Visual feedback. The autosave process is now displayed more clearly when you exit Build Mode or travel to another lot.
Timer fixes. Previously, autosave and reminder timers would reset when traveling, causing intervals to not match the settings. This issue has now been resolved.
Save overwrite fix. A bug has been fixed where manual saves could accidentally overwrite each other. This often happened when a player loaded an old autosave slot and then manually saved to a new slot. The system will now correctly distinguish between save slots.
Memory Optimization: The Game Will Be More Stable
The developers continue to work on reducing crashes.
Crash fixes. The patch includes memory optimizations that should reduce the number of crashes related to insufficient memory. This is especially important when loading large saves and then moving between lots.
Important: The developers warn that loading times may still be long. However, overall game stability should improve.
Marketplace and Menu Fixes
Several changes affect the Marketplace and user interface:
Display fix. A bug has been fixed where the "Discover" tab could display with an offset and show empty areas.
Marketplace navigation errors. If you navigated from the Gallery to a page for a set that was no longer for sale, you'll no longer get a "Something went wrong" error.
PlayStation localization. Japanese text errors for PlayStation players have been fixed.
Base Game Fixes
Career and school timers. A long-standing bug has been fixed where time counters for work, school, and after-school activities could get stuck at zero. This is one of the community's most frequent complaints.
Cache and crashes. The patch includes a fix for some crashes related to the game's cache.
Lot thumbnails on the map. Thumbnails for pre-built houses on the world map have been restored. They previously displayed old "broken" roofs. For other lots, the issue can be resolved by simply loading and exiting the lot.
Fixes for the For Rent Expansion Pack
Owners of the For Rent expansion pack will also receive a batch of fixes. A bug has been fixed where the lot tax for rental units was not appearing in utility bills. It will now appear again.
The August Sims 4 patch is a small but important update that makes the game more stable and convenient. The autosave improvements will help preserve your progress, especially for those who often forget to save manually. Memory optimization should reduce crashes, and the fix for "stuck" timers resolves a long-standing issue.
As with any update, this patch may affect mods, so remember to disable them before installing and wait for updates from their authors.
