Paralives Livestream Recap: Everything We Learned About the Paramaker
The developers of Paralives held an hour-long livestream dedicated entirely to the Paramaker — the game’s character creation tool. Community Manager Rina and character artist Sonia showed viewers how a single base character (playfully nicknamed “Defaultia”) was transformed into five distinct sisters, each with their own unique style. The stream, originally a Patreon exclusive, has now been made public.
Where Did the Inspiration Come From?
The team used a Pinterest board filled with references submitted by Patreon supporters. Those images served as the basis for the outfits created during the stream.
Characters React to Clothing
One of the cutest details viewers noticed: Parafolk react emotionally to what they’re dressed in. When the developers changed a hairstyle or tried on a new clothing item, the character shifted their pose and looked at themselves, as if admiring the new look. It’s a charming touch reminiscent of The Sims 2’s Create-a-Sim that makes the creation process feel alive.
Clothing Layers: Sweaters Over Shirts
The biggest highlight of the Paramaker — and the feature generating the most excitement — is the layering system. You can put a long sleeve under a T‑shirt, add a cardigan over a blouse, and top it off with a coat. Tights and leggings are easily combined with skirts and trousers. Outerwear has its own category, allowing you to build fully layered outfits just like in real life.
Colors and Patterns: Complete Freedom
The Paramaker offers a selection of pre‑made swatches for each item, but if you want something unique, a styling window opens up. There you can pick a color using a color wheel or a HEX code, and for certain items you can even customize patterns, like stripes. For those who prefer simplicity, ready‑made presets are also available.
A fun detail: socks can be colored individually — left and right can be different shades. Perfect for anyone who loves an unconventional style.
Hair, Eyebrows, and Hairstyles
The stream showcased many new hairstyles: various lengths, textures, and styles. They are neatly organized into categories, such as “tied‑up hair.” Hair color can be adjusted with flexibility: roots, main sections, and tips can be colored independently. Artist Sonia clarified that not all hairstyles support a “highlight” effect, but some textures and color transitions do create a similar result.
Eyebrows are also customizable — their color can be matched to the hair or chosen separately.
Accessories with Side Selection
For rings, the developers added a subtle but welcome feature: you can place a ring on the left hand only, the right hand only, or both. Earrings, piercings, and other accessories can be added freely — and they also trigger happy reactions from the character. Already included are nose, eyebrow, lip, cheek, and even navel piercings.
Medical Wearables: An Important Detail
A section that stands out is medical wearables. Hearing aids are already present in the Paramaker and can be worn alongside earrings. Prosthetic legs are also available. The developers promised that band‑aids (plasters) will be added later. Categories are split by body part: hearing aids under face/head accessories, prosthetics under body accessories. This is a significant step toward inclusivity.
Glasses and Makeup
Glasses have their own category, and their colors can be customized. According to Sonia, no large number of new frames is planned for launch — likely just a couple of basic options.
Makeup supports layering: you can apply several eyeliners or eyeshadows at once. For each product, both color and opacity can be adjusted.
Tattoos, Moles, and Nails
Tattoos can be placed anywhere on the body, resized, and rotated — even on the face.
Moles are added in the same way. Manicures and pedicures are separate categories with their own customization options.
The livestream made it clear: the Paramaker is being crafted with great attention to detail and with community feedback in mind. Many features — from clothing layers to medical wearables — are a direct result of player input. Early access for Paralives is getting closer, and after a showcase like this, we can’t wait to get our hands on the game ourselves!
