Mod Isla Esmeralda for Sims 4: A Review of the New Map, Activities, and a Comparison with the Original
The original district, Coast of Adhmor from Innisgreen, is a beautiful corner in its own right, with a harsh northern atmosphere. Rocky shores, foggy sunrises, coniferous forests, and a cool sea breeze create the feeling of a secluded Norwegian or Scottish coastline. This place is perfect for players who appreciate melancholic landscapes and a "wild nature" atmosphere.
But what if we could move from the cool North Atlantic to the warm waters of the Caribbean? What if, instead of pines and fog, you were greeted by palm trees, white sand, turquoise water, and bright sun? That is exactly what the Isla Esmeralda mod by creator CBXSims offers.
In this article, we will compare two worlds: the original harsh Coast of Adhmor and its complete transformation into the tropical resort town of Santo Bella. You will see how the same game district can be turned into something completely different — with the help of a single mod.
Isla Esmeralda Mod Description
Isla Esmeralda is a conversion mod that completely replaces the Coast of Adhmor district from the Innisgreen world. It does not create a new world but transforms an existing one, turning it into a tropical island resort. Important: this is not a save file, but a full map replacement.
The mod takes place in the fictional Caribbean city of Santo Bella — the capital of Isla Esmeralda island. Several Caribbean islands served as inspiration, so the city's appearance features elements of colonial architecture, tropical vegetation, and bright colors.
What Exactly Does the Mod Change?
Complete map redesign. Coast of Adhmor has received a new layout, vegetation, beaches, and buildings. Instead of harsh rocks — white sand and palm trees.
Custom map view. The render is done in Maxis‑Match style, so the district's new look does not clash with the game's visual style.
New traversal system. Walkability has been expanded: Sims can now walk through more areas, with new parks and streets added for strolls.
New seasons. Unlike the original Innisgreen, Isla Esmeralda now has dry and wet seasons. Summer is hot and arid, winter brings storms and downpours. This is a great contrast to the original cool weather.
Overhauled lighting. Orange hues dominate at sunrise and sunset, while during the day the sky is bright blue and cloudless — perfect weather for a beach day.
What Can You Do on the Island?
The mod adds not only cosmetic changes but also new activities:
Two new rabbit holes: a museum (visiting gives a unique gift) and an old church (where you can hold a wedding ceremony).
Here is what the museum looks like:
Upon visiting, the character receives a reward in the form of an unusual figurine:
And here is the church:
In it, Sims can get married.
Basketball and hopscotch. Townies will play these on their own during daylight hours.
A busking stand for performances and earning tips.
Paintable murals — a new form of creativity.
A Woohoo hotel — for romantic adventures.
Snorkeling / scuba spots — diving locations have been added.
Important Installation Notes
The mod requires manually adding the .world file to the DELTA/EP19 folder inside your Sims 4 installation directory. Instructions are included in the download archive. Please read them carefully before installing the mod!
Please note: after every official The Sims 4 update, you will need to re‑add the .world file — EA patches overwrite the DELTA folder.
It is recommended to start a new save for proper functionality. In new saves, the world will be renamed; in old saves it may still appear as regular Innisgreen (but with the new map).
How Is It Different from the Original?
Now let’s look at the comparison between the original game district and CBXSims's mod. We tried to make the screenshots as accurate as possible so you can see the difference.
Here you can clearly see the difference in the district's construction. Small houses have been replaced by multi‑story buildings, and skyscrapers appear on the horizon. The mountains have also become taller and greener, and the tree density is higher.
Here you can see the reworking of the central part of the district. Note that the screenshots were taken in winter. In the original Innisgreen, trees are bare in winter, while in Isla Esmeralda they are full of life and leaves.
In this part of the district, the ice rink has been replaced by a small market, and the large tree has been replaced by a fountain. The buildings have also been reworked, and the building density here is higher.
This is perhaps an example of a change where we prefer the "before" more. The lot itself looked cozier. Perhaps there were supposed to be other items here, but currently this is how it stands.
The same area with the church where Sims can get married. This is a view of the same market, but from the other side.
This part of the coast has changed dramatically. Instead of fake residential houses, there is now some kind of medieval‑style plaza.
From this angle, you can clearly see how the coastal landscape has changed. The rocks have a more natural shape, and sand has appeared behind them.
In these screenshots, you can see that one house has been replaced by a sports area, and another has turned into a complex of several buildings. This is where Sims play basketball.
Here you can see the change with the giant gnome. Instead of it, there is an elegant statue.
Another overhead view from a different angle.
In this part of the district, there is a motel where Sims can rent a room for WooHoo. From this angle, it is hidden behind a tree, but you can still make it out.
Here the difference between the vibe of the old district and the new one is very visible. In the second screenshot, it looks like you have arrived at a resort.
From this angle, you can look at the town that stretches far up the hill, whereas in the original there is an empty field there.
Finally, let's enjoy the beautiful sunset views. After all, any place becomes magical in the light of the blazing sun.
The original district is a beautiful but rather gloomy place with a northern character. It is perfect for players who love the atmosphere of solitude, fog, and rocky shores. But if you are tired of grayness and want sunny summer all year round, then Isla Esmeralda will be a true salvation.
The mod's author, CBXSims, has done colossal work: he changed not only the district's appearance but also its atmosphere, lighting, weather, and even added new activities that were not in the original. This is not just "new textures" — it is a complete reimagining of the location.
Comparing the two worlds, it is hard to believe that they occupy the same map area. Where once there were rocks and conifers, now there is turquoise sea and palm trees. Where cold winds blew, now the warm sun shines.
Isla Esmeralda is not just a mod. It is a little journey from a cold northern harbor to a sunny tropical capital. And if you love experimenting with worlds in Sims 4, this project definitely deserves your attention.
