The InZOI developers continue to actively prepare for the August update, which promises to be one of the most significant since the game's release. In the latest developer diary from July 31, 2026, producer Kjun detailed key changes: Zoi will become smarter and more purposeful in visiting venues, the character editor will receive long-awaited features, and modders will be able to modify even the main menu. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming changes.

Earlier, we covered the plans for the August update, the rethinking of autonomy, and the improvements to Create‑A‑Zoi.

Smarter Zoi: Now They Know Why They Came

One of the main changes involves character behavior in public places. Previously, Zoi visiting a café or bakery often wasted time: chatting, looking at their phones, or just wandering around without ever fulfilling their main purpose.

Kjun explained that the team is reworking the system to make behavior more meaningful:

"Our main goal this week has been to make it much clearer why a Zoi visits a particular location. Until now, even when Zois visited places like cafés or bakeries, they often spent most of their time wandering around, chatting with others, checking their phones, or using the restroom instead of actually accomplishing the purpose of their visit. While these behaviors help make them feel more lifelike, they occurred so frequently that many players felt it became difficult to tell what they had come there to do."

How the new system will work:

  • Zoi will prioritize the purpose of their visit (e.g., at a bakery: buy bread, sit down, and eat it).
    • The ratio of actions will be roughly 90% goal‑oriented and 10% random.
      • Random actions (chatting, looking around) will be minimized.
        • After completing their goal, Zoi will return home instead of lingering aimlessly.

This applies to standard public lots (cafés, bakeries, parks). Business lots and schools are being handled separately.

Important warning: the developers note that overly rigid sequences could create new problems. For example, if there are no available seats in a café, a Zoi could get stuck. The team is therefore continuing to test and fine‑tune the balance.

          Major Updates to Create‑A‑Zoi

The character editor will receive several important new features that will make family creation and customization much more convenient.

Creating family members directly from the Zoi card. You can now access Create‑A‑Zoi from a character's info panel (Zoi Card) and add relatives to an existing Zoi.

Voice customizer. Approximately six preset voices will be available, with a slider for pitch adjustment. No gender restrictions, only age‑based ones.

          Photo Frames and Interface Improvements

Several new features will simplify everyday life and game management.

Photos in frames. You will be able to take in‑game photos and then insert them into picture frames.

Improved item dragging. You can now take any item from a Zoi's inventory and place it anywhere in the world or inside any container.

Mini‑map icon toggling. Toggling icons on the mini‑map will now also affect their visibility in the game world.

Quick access to save folder. A new button in the save menu will open the directory containing your save file, making backups and sharing easier.

          Big Changes for Modders

The developers continue to expand modding capabilities, making them more accessible and flexible.

In‑game mod manager. You can now open it directly during a gameplay session without returning to the main menu.

ModKit update. Modders will be able to modify elements of the main menu and lobby.

          Active Leisure and Surfing

New activities will add variety to Zoi's free time.

Swimming. New actions: you can splash others and talk to Zoi standing by the pool.

Surfing. Fully free‑control surfing couldn't be implemented, but the developers created a mini‑game where you balance on the board and avoid falling.

Scuba diving, however, works fully and has been refined since previous tests.

          Kjun's Message and Release Date

At the end of his post, Kjun addressed the players with his usual warmth, explaining that work on the autonomy system continues and the team aims to make Zoi behavior more natural.

The August update will likely be released within the month. All the mentioned features will be available in the next major patch.

          What Are Players Saying?

In the comments on the Sims Community article, players are discussing not only the new features but also game performance. One user wrote:

"Is the game optimized for lower end PCs though? I'm unable to play even on the lowest settings as a 8GB user. Which is crazy because I can run Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar without any lag and it's a 16gbs game."

This comment raises an important point that developers may need to address: many players are still experiencing performance issues. This could be the next target for optimization.

The August InZOI update looks like one of the most thoughtful patches since the game's release. Improving Zoi autonomy, expanding the character editor, and enhancing modding capabilities are all steps toward a more convenient and realistic game. It's especially encouraging that the developers are focusing not just on adding new features but on fixing fundamental systems. If the new behavior system works as intended, it could dramatically change the game's feel.

Now we just have to wait for the official release and hope the promised improvements truly make the world of InZOI more alive and the performance more stable.
