Insider Leaks Sims 3 and Sims 4 Pack Sales Data: 20 Years of Statistics
A well‑known insider — the same one who accurately predicted the launch of The Sims 4 Marketplace and has repeatedly shared information about Project X — has now published sales data for Sims 3 and Sims 4 packs as of March 2025. The figures should of course be taken with a grain of salt: the source admits that some data is missing and others are only rough estimates. Still, the numbers offer fascinating insight into which expansions were the most successful and which barely broke even.
The Sims 3 Expansion Pack Sales
According to the insider, sales of The Sims 3 expansions were as follows:
- World Adventures – 2.1 million copies
- Ambitions – 1.1 million copies
- Late Night – 1.4 million copies
- Generations – 750 thousand copies
- Pets – 1.2 million copies
- Showtime – 800 thousand copies
- Supernatural – 400 thousand copies
- Seasons – 900 thousand copies
- University Life – 1.1 million copies
- Island Paradise – 350 thousand copies
- Into the Future – 300 thousand copies
The best‑seller was the very first expansion, World Adventures (2.1 million copies). The insider suggests that either being first helped it, or conversely, its instability may have turned players away.
The lowest sales were Island Paradise (350 thousand) and the final expansion Into the Future (300 thousand). The insider links this to technical problems: "World Adventures turned out to be a rather problematic pack – perhaps it did more harm than good." Players will no doubt also remember the legendary instability of Island Paradise.
The Sims 4 Expansion Pack Sales
The data for the fourth installment is more complex. The insider stresses that the numbers are as of March 2025 and do not include sales after that date, including newer expansions such as Businesses & Hobbies, Enchanted by Nature, Adventure Awaits, and Royalty & Legacy.
Here are the sales figures (in millions of copies):
- Get to Work – 7.8 million
- Get Together – 6.5 million
- City Living – 14.5 million
- Cats & Dogs – 17 million
- Seasons – 15 million
- Get Famous – 9 million
- Island Living – 8.5 million
- Discover University – 12 million
- Eco Lifestyle – 5 million
- Snowy Escape – 4.1 million
- Cottage Living – 13 million
- High School Years – 3.5 million
- Growing Together – 12 million
- Horse Ranch – 7 million
- For Rent – 4.5 million
- Lovestruck – 2.8 million
- Life & Death – 6 million
The best‑sellers were Cats & Dogs (17 million), Seasons (15 million), City Living (14.5 million), Cottage Living (13 million), as well as Discover University and Growing Together (12 million each). The insider explains that sales exploded during the pandemic and later after the game went free‑to‑play.
The underperformers were Lovestruck (2.8 million), High School Years (3.5 million), Snowy Escape (4.1 million), and For Rent (4.5 million).
The Sims 4 Game Pack Sales
The insider also shared figures for Game Packs (in millions of copies):
- Outdoor Retreat – 2.5 million
- Spa Day – 2.7 million
- Dine Out – 9 million
- Vampires – 3.5 million
- Parenthood – 3 million
- Jungle Adventure – 4 million
- StrangerVille – 4 million
- Realm of Magic – 3 million
- Star Wars: Journey to Batuu – 2.1 million
- Dream Home Decorator – 600 thousand
- My Wedding Stories – 750 thousand
- Werewolves – 800 thousand
The absolute champion by a huge margin was Dine Out (9 million copies). Surprisingly, Jungle Adventure and StrangerVille sold 4 million copies each. They were closely followed by Vampires (3.5 million) and Parenthood (3 million).
The underperformers were Dream Home Decorator (600 thousand), My Wedding Stories (750 thousand), and Werewolves (800 thousand). The insider notes that Werewolves for The Sims 4 sold twice as well as Supernatural for The Sims 3 (800 thousand vs. 400 thousand). However, it’s important to remember that Sims 3 expansions were released only on PC, while Sims 4 packs also came to consoles – which could have significantly boosted sales.
Stuff Packs and Kits Sales
The insider could not recall exact numbers for each Stuff Pack but said that on average each sold around 1 million copies, and none fell below that mark. As for Kits, he has no data but promised to try to find out if the community is interested.
The insider notes that the most successful expansions were those focused on pets and family‑oriented themes. EA's management looks at long‑term sales data, understanding that Cottage Living would sell well because Cats & Dogs and Growing Together had already shown strong results.
The success of Life & Death, however, came as a surprise to everyone: "I think it had a very good marketing campaign, plus it included a lot of features that players had been wanting for a long time." The insider also reported that expansion sales figures remained low until 2020, then skyrocketed due to the pandemic and the game's free‑to‑play model.
