In Paralives, work is much more than just a click on the "Find a Job" button. The career system here is thought out to the smallest detail: from flexible schedules and real employer buildings to the "Application Points" system, which forces you to actually develop your character rather than just wait for a promotion. Forget about automatic promotions — in this guide, we will tell you how professions work, which skills to level up, and describe all the fields of activity available at the start of early access.

Earlier, we already covered guides on cooking, having children, and also published a selection of the best mods for Paralives.

How to Find a Job in Paralives

Finding a job is one of the first tasks after creating a character. You can get a job in several ways, and all of them are available from the very beginning.

Via phone. The simplest and fastest option. Click on the Parafolk, select "Use Phone...", then "Find a Job". A menu with a list of available vacancies, sorted by category, will open.

Via computer. If you have a computer, click on it and select "Find a Job". If you don't have money for a computer – no problem. Public buildings such as the town hall or library always have computers that can be used for free.

Via city announcements. Interactive job announcements are posted all around Melino. Just walk up and click on them – the same job list will open. This is a great way to find work if you want to play more immersively and avoid constantly using menus.

Via Townie Initiatives. Sometimes NPCs may offer a job themselves during a conversation. Rare, but very atmospheric.

When you have chosen a suitable vacancy, the job is given instantly – no interviews. You simply get it and start on the next working day.

The content of available vacancies changes every in‑game day. If there is no suitable entry‑level position in your desired category today, just wait until tomorrow – the announcements will refresh.

You Choose Your Own Schedule

When you are hired, you will be offered to choose a shift schedule: you can decide on which days of the week and at what time your Parafolk will work.

This opens up many possibilities – for example, you can work two jobs at the same time if their schedules do not conflict.

Schoolchildren and Teenagers Can Also Work

Although the game does not have special "part‑time working days", teenagers can take a job and choose hours that do not conflict with school. They usually have access to positions in the "Service" category with low pay, but this is a great way to instill financial responsibility in the younger generation and save up for their first pocket money.

You Can Work Two Jobs at Once

Parafolk can have several jobs simultaneously – and even combine full‑time with part‑time if their schedules do not conflict. A good strategy at the start when you need to accumulate money quickly.

If you want to quit, open the "Occupations" tab (the briefcase icon on the left), scroll down, and click "Quit Job".

How Promotions and Career Progression Work

In Paralives, you do not get promoted automatically just by working well. The system here is more complex and interesting.

Application Points

The basis of career progression is Application Points. Instead of clear requirement lists, each position uses this system to determine whether your Parafolk is suitable for it. The higher the rank of the position, the more points are required. The number of required points is usually equal to the job rank (Rank 12 requires 12 points).

Application Points are earned for:

  • Skill level: certain skills (e.g., programming for IT specialties)
    • Work experience: time spent in this field
      • Characteristics and Vibe: seriousness, charisma, and other personality traits can give bonuses

The first ranks (entry‑level positions) do not require Application Points – anyone can get them. Hover over a vacancy, and the game will show how many points you have and which skills you are missing.

        Upgrade Points

After each successful workday, you may receive an Upgrade Point. Once you have a point, go to the career tab – an exclamation mark icon will appear there. Click "Upgrade", and three options will appear before you.

        Usually the options are:

        • Rank Up: increases salary and gives access to higher positions (if you have enough skills).
          • Perks: useful buffs – for example, faster skill growth, performance bonuses, or additional Vibes.
            • Other bonuses: for example, increased performance or stress relief.

              Three Strikes

Working in Paralives is not only about opportunities but also about risks. If your Parafolk constantly comes to work tired, irritated, or cannot cope with tasks, their performance drops. Poor performance results in a strike. Accumulate three strikes, and you will be fired.

              Storyteller Career Cards

Every evening, your Storyteller gives a card with a bonus for the next day. Sometimes they are related to work: a small percentage bonus to skills, extra salary, Upgrade Points, or even a salary increase. Do not miss them.

All Career Categories and Professions in Paralives

All jobs in Paralives are tied to real buildings in the city. If you work as a doctor, you go to the hospital. If you are a teacher – you go to school. Even if the work itself happens "off‑screen" (like a rabbit hole), it exists in the physical space of the city.

At the start of early access, more than 10 career categories are available. Let's describe each one.

              Software Development

                                  Music

The most "starry" and difficult career. It is hard to break through to the top, but if successful, the income will be very high.

A career in education allows you to earn a solid income while influencing the minds of young Parafolk.

                                              Healthcare

One of the most important and rewarding fields. Stability and prestige reign here.

The highest salaries and prestigious positions in Paralives are found in the following fields:

                                                                          • Software Development – the highest‑paying vacancies. If you are looking for a career that will fund all your building dreams, start with programming.
                                                                            • Medicine – an excellent balance between requirements and pay. If your Parafolk is compassionate and smart, this is a reliable path to wealth.
                                                                              • Science – high educational requirements, but the reward is corresponding.
                                                                                • Management – requires charisma and experience, but the top ranks bring substantial income.

Top Tips for Fast Career Progression

Start with Rank 1. Don't chase high positions right away – start with an entry‑level job, earn experience points, and level up the skills relevant to your chosen field.

Complete the daily task. Almost every job has a daily task – from programming to practicing speeches in front of a mirror. Do it every day to get a significant performance bonus.

Choose the right Work Stance. While working, you can select a stance: "Normal", "Hardworking", and others. Hardworking mode gives more performance points but consumes more energy. Choose the stance depending on your Parafolk's state and personality traits.

Monitor their mood. Happy and well‑rested Parafolk work much more productively. Before work, make sure their needs are met and their mood is good.

Raise relevant skills. Carefully study the requirements of your chosen career and level up exactly the skills needed for promotion.

Use Upgrade Points wisely. If you need money urgently – take a rank upgrade. If you want to grow faster in the long term – choose perks that speed up skill growth or performance.

The career system in Paralives is not just a way to earn money, but a full‑fledged professional development simulator where player decisions matter.
