So Complicated Legacy Challenge

The So Complicated Legacy Challenge by Storyteller Whims is a drama‑filled legacy challenge where every generation is marked by chaos, complicated relationships, and tough life choices. Inspired by other popular legacy challenges, this one focuses on love, betrayal, family dynamics, and the messiness of life. Each generation has a unique story, specific goals, and plenty of room for player choice. It's designed for players who want their Sims' lives to be anything but simple.

Important Note: This challenge contains mature themes and is recommended for players sixteen and older.

General Rules

• This legacy challenge uses most packs, but they are listed for each generation. If you don't have a required pack, just play that generation without it or skip it;
• Play on any lifespan you want (Normal or Long is recommended);
• You can cheat to move Sims in and out, but no cheating skills or careers;
• If you play, use the hashtag #sims4socomplicatedlegacychallenge and tag @Storytellerwhims;
• This challenge doesn't require mods, but feel free to use them!

Gen.1 The Rancher and The Vain

You are married and in love, having taken a sip of romance just like the delicious wine you create. But you realize that being committed to someone so vain is not the life you seek. So you run away to an old ranch, opening a pub where your wine can shine. You have a child from your ex that reminds you of that careless lover. You attempt to be a parent but create distance to feel secure.

Aspiration: Expert Nectar Maker

Traits: Romantic, Rancher (choose last trait)

Career: You Choose

Colors: Maroon and Brown

Goals

• Get married quickly to a Self‑Absorbed Sim;
• Have a child with your partner before you leave them;
• Have a fight with your spouse, then move to a rundown ranch; Own a horse, mini goats, and sheep;
• Max the Nectar Making skill and two other skills of your choice;
• Run a Pub Business and sell your nectar (requires Businesses & Hobbies);
• Have a distant family dynamic with your child (only one child);
• Find new love or enjoy casual romance.

Gen.2 Juiced Seducer

You grew up watching your parent work hard making juice. As a young adult, you want to continue the family's tasty legacy, so you try to make your own flavor through juice fizzing. Your parent feels threatened and kicks you out. Now, with just your journal and broken family baggage, you go out on your own and get juiced and seduced to feel better. Randomly, you get sick and realize it's not the juice — it's a pregnancy!

Aspiration: Successful Lineage

Traits: Non‑Committal, Vegetarian (choose last trait)

Career: Mixologist (Culinary Level 8 Mixologist Branch)

Colors: Yellow and Blue

Goals

• Move out of your parents' house after a fight;
• Make Juice from the Juice Fizzing Machine and sell it;
• Decide to quit making juice, go to the bar, and Woohoo with a random Sim;
• Woohoo with and date new Sims every week (3). End up pregnant or get them pregnant;
• Join the Culinary career and reach level 8;
• Find a new hobby you enjoy, quit your job, and pursue something new.

Required Packs: Eco Lifestyle, Lovestruck, City Living

Gen.3 The Beautiful Mooch

Adoration is what you wanted. Being around a parent who constantly sought attention taught you that the best way to get what you want is to hoodwink. You go from one job to another and have a new fling every season. You have no problems as long as you get what you came for. Now you marry just for money and live a wealthy life with no worries.

Aspiration: Fabulously Wealthy

Traits: Self‑Absorbed, Materialistic (choose last trait)

Career: Criminal

Colors: Black and Pink

Goals

• As a Young Adult, become a Criminal and reach level 5. After that, change jobs often;
• Steal from your lovers' homes and leave them;
• Marry a rich Sim (townie or created) and have children with them;
• Max the Mischief and Charisma skills, plus one other skill;
• Buy many decorative items for your home;
• Throw dinner parties often;
• Live in a mansion or penthouse and ignore your children.

Required Packs: Get Famous, City Living, Lovestruck

Gen.4 The Culinary Artist's Lie

No one will know what you did — you swear to take it to your grave. You studied hard in university, went through two different degrees, yet you have no money to open a restaurant. So you become a street painter to make coins. Not many people wanted your art, so out of spite you become a villainous secret agent to make enough money to open your restaurant. What you had to do to get there, you always lie about.

Aspiration: You Choose (Public Enemy or Master Chef)

Traits: Foodie, Evil (choose last trait)

Career: Secret Agent (Villainy Branch)

Colors: Green and White

Goals

• Go to university twice, failing in two degrees;
• Paint and sell them on the street;
• Join the Secret Agent career and reach level 8 (Villainy Branch);
• Have a relationship with two Sims at once. Have a child with both;
• Max the Cooking skill and one other skill of your choice;
• Open your restaurant after your final promotion.

Required Packs: Discover University, Dine Out, City Living, Lovestruck

Gen.5 Woohoo Shop Owner's Diary

Nothing in the Sims world beats Woohoo, and every Sim deserves to experience it. You are the matchmaker who gets Sims to meet and have romance. At your secretive business, you write in your diary, wishing for love. You come up with the idea to turn your customers' relationships into books. That helps you gain the confidence to go for a relationship of your own – the only problem is, they're already married!

Aspiration: Soulmate

Traits: Lovebug, Clumsy (choose last trait)

Career: Writer

Colors: Neon Purple and Hot Pink

Goals

• Own a business where the activities are "Be Flirty" and "Be Romantic." Add at least one Woohoo location to your business (you can also add a coffee bar or other activities);
• Join the Writer career and reach level 7;
• Max the Romance and Writing skills, plus one other hobby skill;
• Write books about your customers and publish them;
• Be in a relationship with someone who is married (a Sim you make or a townie);
• Break up the marriage or decide to find someone else. Have a child or children.

Gen.6 Jealous Tattooist

Drawing on other people's bodies is your life. You're proud of your parlor, and then someone walks into your life who becomes your friend. As you bond, you get matching tattoos. They move into your place, and you start to notice they are well‑off, uptight, with nice stuff. You get jealous and fight. You try to settle your differences, but when you date someone they also like, the friendship is over.

Aspiration: Friend of the World

Traits: Creative, Jealous (choose last trait)

Career: Tattoo Business Owner (not an official career)

Colors: Orange and Lime

Goals

• Open a tattoo parlor business (requires Businesses & Hobbies);
• Make friends with someone who visits your business. Get matching tattoos with them;
• Have your friend move in and obtain 10K;
• Meet a Sim you and your friend have a crush on. Have a fight with your friend;
• Max the Tattooing skill and one other hobby skill;
• Decide to marry the Sim you fought over or meet someone else. Have a child or children.

Gen.7 Too Early for Parenthood

You were the best student in high school, and now that you're in college, you hope to do the same. After a couple terms, you fall in love randomly with someone who is good at sports. Now you feel stuck with them because you're pregnant! You didn't plan on marrying your partner; they don't fit your overall plan for life. The baby comes, and it's a disaster. It all happened not the way you hoped – it's too early for parenthood.

Aspiration: Academic

Traits: Overachiever, Hates Children (choose last trait)

Career: Doctor

Colors: Light Blue and White

Goals

• Go to university and earn an A grade in two terms;
• Meet a Sim with the Active trait and date them;
• End up pregnant and unhappy, unable to finish college. Have the baby, then go straight into the Doctor career and reach level 5;
• Max the Logic skill and three other skills;
• Decide to stay with your college fling or break up;
• Have a strict family dynamic with your child (only one child).

Gen.8 Family Rebel Runaway

Being in a claustrophobic family has always been a pain – constant fear of letting them down and fights that leave you crying. After living a strict life because of doing what your family wishes, you pack up and leave, finding a place to call home with someone you met. You were always told strangers are dangerous, but this one stole your heart, allowing you to become what you truly dreamed of – a jokester, a stand‑up comedian. Now you smile more, making others laugh out loud!

Aspiration: Joke Star

Traits: Gloomy, Goofball (choose last trait)

Career: Comedian

Colors: Magenta and Gold

Goals

• Have a distant family dynamic with one or both of your parents as a Young Adult;
• Have a negative relationship with your family;
• Leave home and move into an apartment in any world. Have a roommate that you end up dating;
• Join the Entertainer career and reach level 8 (Comedian Branch);
• Become a Three‑Star Celebrity (optional);
• Decorate your apartment in vibrant, fun colors and paintings;
• Max the Comedy skill and two other hobby skills;
• Complete the Joke Star aspiration;
• Have a child or children with whom you have a close family dynamic.

Gen.9 I'm in Love with a Ghost

You're not afraid of ghosts – you actually adore them. But it's your job as a paranormal investigator to send them back to the netherworld. You feel pressured by society to view them as demonic, but not all spirits have bad intentions. You want to become one when you fall for the personality of a friendly neighborhood ghost. After a couple of dates, you have to let them go, moving on to a person with a beating heart.

Aspiration: Ghost Historian or Soulmate

Traits: Romantically Reserved, Genius (choose last trait)

Career: Paranormal Investigator

Colors: Grey and White

Goals

• Live in a Haunted House Residential or a house/apartment with the Spooky lot trait;
• Join the Paranormal Investigator career after getting your license from Guidry;
• Fall in love with a ghost, go on a couple of dates, then let them go;
• Meet a new Sim who has the Skeptical or Gloomy trait;
• Marry your new partner and have a family;
• Max the Medium skill and two other skills;
• Become friends with Bonehilda;
• Collect all the collectibles from the Paranormal Stuff pack.

Gen.10 The Ex No One Wants Back

You're a love bomber who thinks that if you love someone, nothing bad will happen. The truth is, you're the reason no one wants to date again. You always complain to your partners, and when they do something you hate, you fight, and they leave. You have a fear of being alone, and every time an ex leaves, you fall into despair. Soon you realize there's only one way this next one will stay – you have to have a child with them. You go on Cupid's Corner and meet a hottie, and your plan works – until you realize you're not the only ex no one wants back; they are too!

Aspiration: Villainous Valentine

Traits: Hot‑Headed, Snob (choose last trait)

Career: Lawyer

Colors: Black and Midnight Blue

Goals

• Be in many relationships that end badly (3);
• Join the Law career and reach level 6;
• Fight with every partner and have a negative relationship with them;
• Max the Romance and Mischief skills, plus one other skill;
• Complete the Villainous Valentine aspiration;
• Never get married until you have a baby with your last partner, who has the Evil trait;
• Have a difficult family dynamic with your children;
• Pass away from heartbreak when your partner divorces you.
