Getaways Guide for The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits – How to Plan, Organize & Win Rewards
Getaways are one of the key features of The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits expansion pack. This customizable event lets you plan and create unique adventures for your Sims — whether sporty, culinary, or even romantic!
In this guide, we’ll explain how to create and plan your own trip, how to send your Sims on one, what pre-made trips are already available, and how to earn Simoleons and in-game rewards along the way!
Important: Family Switching Issue
After release, players discovered that planning getaways can cause issues if you like switching between households. Switching to another family will permanently cancel all current and upcoming trips.
If you enter the Manage Worlds menu while a trip is planned, a pop-up message will warn you that your trip will be irreversibly canceled.

To avoid this, the only way to prepare a trip in advance is to create a trip plan preset in the scheduling settings. You’ll still need to manually select the destination and activities according to the trip rules before departure.
How to Start A Getaway in Adventure Awaits
You can send a Sim on a trip alone or with family members. To do this, use either a phone or a computer.
On the phone, open the Travel tab and choose one of the following:
- Plan a Getaway
- Plan a Camp Getaway
- Plan a Romantic Competition (not available for children)
- Plan a Fitness Retreat (not available for children)
On the computer, go to Household... → Other Options... → Plan a Getaway.
To plan a getaway in advance, open the calendar, select a day, and click Add a Getaway.

Before departure, the game will confirm if you’re ready to go. Remember — Sims cannot take part in multiple trips at once. If you select “I’ll join later!”, your Sim won’t leave immediately. You can send them later by clicking the Sim and choosing “Go on Getaway.”

If all teens and adults leave the household, children will stay home under the care of a nanny.
Getaways can last up to 7 days. During this time, work and school are paused, and your Sims won’t lose progress while they’re away.
How to Plan a Getaway in Adventure Awaits
After selecting “Plan a Getaway,” the Getaway Planner will open. Here you can choose the location, date, roles, schedule, and getaway rules.

Location, Duration & Cost
If the getaway takes place outside your home lot, you’ll pay a daily fee based on the lot’s value and the number of visitors. At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see an estimated total cost — the fewer participants and the pricier the lot, the higher the fee.
You can also set the duration — from 1 to 6 nights. Enabling the 'Recurring Weekly' option will automatically add this getaway to the calendar on the same days each week.
When planning through the calendar, you can choose a start time. When planning via phone, the getaway begins immediately. You can also set the end time, when Sims return home.

Roles and Participants
If you use a pre-made getaway template, roles and schedules are automatically filled in, but you can freely edit them. You can also add new roles from the library or create your own.

Each role can be assigned manually or automatically based on traits like age, gender, relationship status, character traits, occult type, career, or skill level. You can make any criteria mandatory.
At least one Sim (usually yours) must have a role, and up to 20 Sims can participate in total. Each role can have up to five tasks.
Sims aren’t limited to their assigned tasks — you can direct them to do other things as well.

Roles can be renamed, deleted, or saved for future use.
You can also assign custom outfits per role — click the T-shirt and wrench icon to open clothing options. Choose by category, color, or customize individually in CAS.

Schedules
With schedules, you decide what happens, when, and who’s involved. Each activity slot must last at least three hours.
You can adjust the schedule before or even during the getaway — add or remove Sims, change activities, or give them free time. Whether the schedule is tightly organized or relaxed is up to you.

You can edit, save, or link schedules to custom venues, making it easier to reuse them later.
Activities
Main activities fall into categories like Active, Social, Hobby, and more. The chosen category affects what rewards Sims earn by the end of the getaway.
If you assign multiple activities, Sims will prioritize those relevant to their role. When conflicting tasks overlap (for example, playing video games vs. fishing), Sims will choose based on motives and autonomy.
If you own other packs, extra activities appear automatically — Spa Day adds Yoga, Horse Ranch adds Riding, Snowy Escape adds Snowboarding, and Island Living adds Snorkeling. Adventure Awaits also adds unique activities like Water Fun or Mischief & Pranks, which expand further if you own additional packs.

Rules
Getaways can include up to five rules, which add variety or challenge. Each rule can target specific roles.
There are 14 different rules, divided into three types:
Neutral or Positive
These either help or have no negative effects.
- Activity Shuffle — Randomizes scheduled activities.
- Grindset Mindset — Boosts happiness while skilling or creating.
- Love Is In The Air — Easier to build romantic relationships; they decay slower.
- No Strings Attached — Sims won’t get jealous.
- Renaissance Studio — Creative skills improve faster and crafts are higher quality.
Chaotic or Negative
These increase difficulty or chaos.
- Hardcore Mode — Hunger, energy, and hygiene decay faster.
- House Of Grudges — Friendships decay faster and are harder to maintain.
Elimination Rules
Only one can be active at a time. Each day, one Sim is eliminated based on lowest progress (skill or relationship growth) or lowest value (current skill/relationship level). If multiple skills are listed, the game adds them together.
Available elimination modes:
- Child Skill Elimination
- Survival of the Fittest Elimination
- Player Choice Elimination
- Cooking Skills Elimination
- Romantic Elimination
- Popularity Elimination
- Creative Skills Elimination

Participating in a Getaway
When your Sim arrives at the venue, the schedule appears in the top-left corner. It guides Sim behavior but doesn’t restrict the player — you can still travel, go on dates, or do anything else.

Source: IGN
If an elimination rule is active, one Sim will be eliminated daily at 11:00 AM. Eliminated Sims can leave or stay as spectators.
You can extend or end a getaway anytime — click the clock icon next to the getaway name or use the phone (Travel → Extend Getaway / End Getaway).

If your household lacks funds, you’ll have to end the getaway early.
How to Earn Simoleons During Getaways
If the getaway takes place on your lot, you’ll earn money from each visiting participant. Better amenities and attention to guests increase your chance of generous tips.
Sims who last until the end of competitions earn rewards — potions, collectibles, Simoleons, or unique traits. Sims who focus on main activities may also gain extra traits related to their category.
You can also act as a getaway organizer, which grants unique traits reflecting your event management experience!

Pre-made Getaways in Adventure Awaits
Now that you know how to plan your own, you can also try one of the three pre-made getaways available with The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits. These are fully set up and ready to play — no need to design a schedule manually!
Available pre-made getaways and venues:
- Love Highland
- Gibbi-Gibbi Camp
- Revive and Thrive Retreat
Love Highland

- Sim Popularity Contest
Custom Venues
Custom Venues are a new type of community lot where getaways can take place. The only required objects are a sink, trash bin, and toilet — everything else is up to you!
To assign activities to the venue, click Edit Schedule Template in the upper-left corner. You can then choose a pre-made schedule or create your own, as described earlier.

Note that custom venues cannot be owned by a household — they always remain public.
We hope this guide helps you design exciting and memorable getaways — wherever your Sims’ adventures take them!
