Career Generator for The Sims 4: How to Choose a Job for Your Sim
Sometimes in The Sims 4, it can be difficult to figure out what your sim should be doing. Especially when the game doesn’t offer any helpful hints: no random encounters, storyline events, or clear dreams for the sim themselves. In these moments, choosing a career turns into a real puzzle.

To make things easier, I’ve put together two career generators that will help you make a decision faster, and at the same time add a little surprise to your game.

First Generator: Pure Random
The easiest way is to trust fate. You just click on the generator button and receive a career option. That’s it. No need to think, reason, or pick through options. Sometimes this exact method helps refresh your story and send your sim down an unexpected path.

This option is perfect for:
- when you’re stuck and don’t know what to do with your sim;
- when you want a “just like real life” story, because in reality we also don’t always instantly know our calling;
- for secondary characters, when you don’t want to spend a lot of time deciding.
Second Generator: By Personality Traits
A more “intelligent” approach is based on your sim’s personality. In the generator, you select two traits, and the system picks the most suitable career based on their combination.

How to use it:
- For teens. There’s a career test at high school in the game, but in my opinion, the mechanics aren’t really fleshed out. To add depth, you can use the generator right for this event. Teens already have two traits you can use for this (you can also run a career test for adult sims with the ilkavelle mod).
- For young adult+ sims. Here, the character has three traits, but you pick the two most “dominant” ones and enter them into the generator. This will help figure out which path feels the most natural for that particular sim.
This method not only makes the choice easier, but also helps you get a better feel for your sim’s personality.

The second generator has two ways to use it:
1. Google Sheet. Convenient because it’s available online from any device and doesn’t require installing extra software. But there’s a catch: if several people use the sheet at the same time, the formulas or settings can get messed up. So, be careful.
2. Excel File. A more reliable option for individual use. All the formulas are saved locally, and nothing will get messed up by multiple users accessing it at once. Downside: it requires MSO to be installed on your PC.

Generators are just a tool. They help take some of the pressure off the player and bring a bit of structured variety into your sims’ lives. Which means, every choice won’t feel like a random box checked in a menu, but a real step in your character’s destiny.
