Early access for Paralives launched on May 25, and by the end of the first week, the game had sold 250,000 copies, peaked at 78,000 concurrent players on Steam, and earned 88% positive reviews. To celebrate the success and answer the most pressing questions, studio founder Alex Massé and the team held a large‑scale "Ask Me Anything" session on Reddit. The team confirmed the game will never have paid DLC, explained how they plan to fund development, discussed priority fixes, and for the first time officially addressed the possibility of adult mods.

The full AMA is available on Reddit in the r/Games community. In this article, we’ve gathered the most important and interesting questions and answers.

Business Model: No Paid DLC and Hundreds of Free Updates

The most popular question concerned financial sustainability. Players wondered how a team of 15 people could support the game for years while rejecting the main source of income – paid expansions.

Alex Massé answered directly:

"There will never be paid DLC, only free updates! Even after early access ends. As fans of life simulation games, we wanted to create a game we would enjoy playing ourselves, without having to buy a ton of additional content."

According to the developers, initial sales were so successful that the revenue will sustain a small team for many years, even if they decide to expand slightly:

"Our team is only 15 people. Game sales will provide stable funding for years to come, even if we grow the team a little. We are incredibly grateful to the community for this support."

This promise alone was enough to generate a lot of enthusiasm among players. Many compared Paralives’ approach to EA’s policy with The Sims 4, where players have to spend hundreds of dollars on dozens of expansions, packs, and kits.

Autonomy: Why Parafolk Spend Too Much Time on Their Phones and What Will Be Done About It

One of the main complaints in the first days of early access concerned character behavior. Players noticed that Parafolk left unattended spend too much time on their phones and generally lack initiative.

The studio founder acknowledged the problem and explained its technical cause:

"Autonomy is a key feature that needs more attention, balancing, and most importantly, more content. Characters constantly look at their phones because those actions can be performed without being tied to other objects or characters – in other words, it’s the simplest and most accessible option. Adding new autonomous actions and interactions during early access will help fix this. We will make characters engage in more varied activities!"

Thus, the issue is not poor implementation, but a lack of sufficient "ready‑made scenarios" for free will. The developers promise to gradually add new types of autonomous activities to make the world feel more alive.

Multitasking and Technical Challenges

Some players asked whether Parafolk would eventually be able, for example, to eat and watch TV at the same time. This is a common feature in many life simulators, but implementing it in Paralives turned out to be complex.

Programmer Anna Thibert honestly admitted:

"At the moment, multitasking is not planned because it is technically quite challenging. But we are keeping it as a potential option for future updates!"

One user expressed disappointment, calling multitasking a "critical feature for a life simulator." The developers did not argue but did not make any promises, leaving the question open.

Adult Mods: "Everything Allowed by Steam Is Allowed by Us"

The Sims franchise has always been known for its "adult" modifications. Players were curious how the Paralives team would approach this.

QA manager Charlotte gave a clear answer:

"As long as mods comply with Steam’s rules regarding user content and are properly tagged as adult, it’s fine! We only moderate mods within Steam Workshop. Anything outside that is outside our jurisdiction, so to speak."

Thus, the team will neither encourage nor prohibit such content, simply following the platform’s policies – a pragmatic approach that will likely satisfy most players.

Farming, Pets, Collaborations, and Other Future Plans

The developers also answered several other important questions.

Farming: Basic gardening is planned during early access. Full‑fledged farming and animal husbandry will be considered based on player feedback.

Pets and pet stores: Not currently planned, but may appear in the future. Logically, pet stores would be added together with the pets themselves.

Occult creatures (vampires, mermaids, ghosts, etc.): Not in the immediate plans, but the team really likes the idea for the future.

Collaborations (crossovers): Possible, but only if the partnership feels organic and appeals to the community.

Language support: The game is already translated into 8 official languages. The team would like to add more, but cannot confirm specific timelines yet. Players are already actively creating translations via Steam Workshop.

Lot unloading for performance: When you visit another lot, the previous one automatically “unloads” to save resources. In the future, an option may be added to keep one additional lot open.

Optimization and Bugs: What’s the Priority?

The developers confirmed that in the coming months, the main focus will be on optimization, bug fixes, refining existing features, and quality of life improvements. The team intends to work closely with the community to identify which bugs are most critical.

The main takeaway from the AMA is that the Paralives team is committed to long‑term support of the game, has no plans to introduce paid DLC, and is willing to discuss both successes and problems (such as autonomy or multitasking) openly with the community. This is a rare example of transparency in the gaming industry, and judging by the reaction, players appreciate it.

The developers have already announced that the first major update with fixes and new content will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2026, and thereafter the game will receive free updates adding weather, seasons, pools, pets, and much more.
