Population Control in The Sims 4
This guide will help you avoid overcrowding or spontaneous moving to other households. It's not uncommon for NPCs to simply start another family, leaving only a child and three pets in their previous household.
The main cause is Neighborhood Stories. There are several ways to solve this: either disable it, select necessary modules, or adjust event probability percentages in the command center.
Step 1: To access the Neighborhood Stories settings, go to Manage Households and click on the button in the top right corner.
Step 2: Disable all modules and uncheck the box for Neighborhood Stories. You may choose to leave some modules enabled, but if you keep options such as random death, adoption of a child, pet adoption, moving in and moving out enabled, the issue may persist.
If you still decide to keep Neighborhood Stories and play with multiple households, you can customize individual settings for each family.
Sometimes, when you download a save file where every NPC is well-developed, and you want to preserve this beauty for as long as possible, here are the settings for the command center.
Step 1: Install the command center and find it on your sim's computer.
Step 2: Find the MC Population module and click on it.
Step 3: Moving settings.
Step 4: Prohibit, disable or set the probability to zero for actions below the outlined modules.
Step 5: You can cancel the settings for active households so they only apply to NPCs.
Step 6: Exit the moving settings and find the population settings.
Step 7: Here, you can adjust the percentage probability of characters appearing in the game across all age categories. You can set it slightly below.
Step 8: Exit the population module and find the MC Pregnancy module.
Step 9: Select Other Pregnancy.
Step 10: You can pause births in inactive playable households. This feature is very useful if you are playing with multiple households and do not want to miss the birth of a child while playing with others.
Step 11: You can adjust the auto-marry percentage. This is the main reason why married NPCs run away to others. Set it to zero.
Step 12: If you still play with Neighborhood Stories, in this module you can adjust more details.
Of course, if you delve deeper, you can configure population control using appropriate mods.
Thank you for your attention.
